Have any of you guys had problems with smell/ odor ????? I have a fastbuds west coast og it’s my first grow and it’s at 2.5 weeks I hope I won’t need to buy a carbon filter that my biggest concern.

I have a lot of odor…. like it hits you in the face when you walk in the door to the house. I’m growing 2 uk cheese and 1 white widow… first timer so I don’t know which varieties smell more than others. I bought some Ona gel that seems to be helping my problem… the Ona solid stuff that came with the box wasn’t getting the job done.

Yeah, that’s one of the many flaws of this grow cabinet. The pc fans that are installed with carbon filter is crap. I

I got my 4 Foot Yield Max over a month ago. After a few delays in getting the grow started (nothing to do with the box or components)

Here’s a few things I have learned and/or acquired in the last month:

Air flow is ESSENTIAL. Though the box is away from the wall by 8 inches or more IF the door to the room that the box is in is closed so that air can not circulate – in warmer temps like here in the southwest, you can pretty much assure that algae WILL develop as tank temps rise. Keep air circulating around your box if possible, and insure lights are off during the hottest part of the day. An electronic PH tester is nice, but a standard vial type tester and General Hydroponics PH UP/DOWN can be a lifesaver in areas with water PH above 6.5 or below 5.5. IF you don’t know the PH of the water you are planning on using – invest in the General Hydroponics PH UP/DOWN kit, you won’t be sorry.

An extra DWC tub is also nice – I picked one up locally (appears to be the same brand) for under $5.00 I also opted for Advanced Hydroponics Perfect PH 3 part nutrient system, Natural Bacillus root inoculant and Soy Oil mite and mold/root inoculant.

When it comes to seedlings and nutrients LESS is ALWAYS better than more. Everyone here is NOT kidding… REALLY, for seedlings less is best. Also to avoid nutrient lock out please check HERE-> for the proper way to mix your nutrients to avoid nutrient lock out. General Hydroponics 3 part formulation is pretty straight forward… others, not so much.

IF you follow the instructions provided here on Unique Hydroponics – do your research – get a good batch of stable genetic seeds (and maybe the ability to filter things in PhotoShop better than I can) and you will find that the results posted by John on his grow at two weeks old is spot on with what you can expect!

An image of my Medical Grow at day 13 is posted below:

I will post images and comments as the grow progresses. Overall I am MORE than happy with my purchase and would easily recommend this set up to others.

After 9 weeks into my first ever medical & Hydroponic Grow here’s my honest opinion of the unit I purchased:

    1. The vast majority of problems I have had have resulted from lack of knowledge, change of medium (on two fronts – water & indoor LED lighting), personal preference & growing environment- NOT with box or any of its components.
    2. I did A LOT of research prior to my purchase, while boxes are not perfect – they do offer a quick start up, a package that includes the vast majority of EVERYTHING you will need at the most readable price – AND a great support team.
    3. You will probably find some thing’s that you will want to change… larger pump mounted outside the box, better light seal for the DWC tub whose spray paint tends to flake off. You will also find things you
want or need to purchase not included in the Grow box kit. However, that being said I am more convinced than ever after having used the product, you won’t find a better bargain for an all in one!

Ok, forgive the ignorance. i’m used to ebb / flow ‘ponics.

…is the air pump supposed to go on with lights, or stay on all the time..? I see 2 conflicting posts about this on this site. Fans seem like always on would be best for stalk strength right..?

also anyone have any luck using the smaller box as a cloner?? just use the hormone mix instead? or Not workable?

The pump for your DWC should be running 24/7 NOT tied in with the lights.
The reason for this is at least two fold-
1st. The plant roots need oxygen even in the dark, and the purpose of the pump is to keep to water super oxygenated to insure rapid and healthy root and plant growth and provide maximum nutrient uptake.
2nd. IF your pump is located outside of your box (easy enough to do) it can also help provide cool air that will help to keep the tank temperature low and help prevent root rot and algae.

Waiting on my seeds when it comes to the how should I start?? New to this first time bloging??

i m very new to this hobby. i m studying the horizontal type, using the big (sewage) pvc pipes, where the reservoir is place beneath the “A” racks. i intend to start small. my questions, do my vegetables need to be submerge all the time as soon as they sit inside their netpots? For aeroponics (the ones intalled with spraying nozzle), the roots are only sprayed about 4 times a day, just to apply moisture to the roots.

Hello, I have started my grow with the yield machine max. Number one concern is how do I keep the heat down, its running at about 86-89 degrees. Any suggestions on how to keep the heat down?
